Hormel Foods agreed on 30 September to buy Brakebush Brothers, a century-old Wisconsin chicken processor, for about $1.055bn in cash. Brakebush generated roughly $1.2bn of sales over the past year.
Market context
Hormel says the deal will roughly triple chicken's share of its protein portfolio and expects it to add to adjusted earnings from fiscal 2028. Funding with cash and debt will temporarily push leverage above its target range; closing is expected in the first quarter of Hormel's fiscal 2027.
