Carlyle agreed on 8 June to acquire up to 100% of Chung Ho Group, a South Korean home and healthcare appliance rental platform, from the family of its late founder, through funds affiliated with Carlyle Asia Partners.
Why Carlyle (Carlyle Asia Partners) is buying Chung Ho Group
Carlyle plans to invest further in the brand and in product innovation, aiming to benefit from demand for health-related home appliances and subscription models. Its Korea head said the deal shows Carlyle's ability to handle complex ownership and succession transitions.
“We believe Chung Ho is one of the leading Korean water purifier and home appliance companies.”
Deal terms and financing
Carlyle described the deal as a proprietary, succession-driven transaction and did not disclose terms; Bloomberg reported a price of about US$700m.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Closing was expected in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.
Market context
Chung Ho was founded in 1993 by the late Dr H.D. Joung. Carlyle says it has invested more than US$4bn in Korea over two decades, including in ADT Caps, Kakao Mobility and KFC Korea.
