Ambienta SGR has acquired a majority stake in Energreen, an Italian maker of specialised machines for vegetation management, from 21 Invest and founder Daniele Fraron, the environmental investor said on 15 October. Terms were not disclosed, though Italian press put the value at close to €300m.
Why Ambienta SGR (Ambienta IV fund) is buying Energreen S.p.A. (majority stake)
Ambienta said purpose-built machines are replacing tractor-and-boom-mower solutions and that vegetation control is becoming key to protecting infrastructure from wildfires and floods. It plans to expand Energreen in the US and Europe, organically and through acquisitions.
Deal terms and financing
The stake is bought through the Ambienta IV fund. Fraron and 21 Invest will reinvest alongside Ambienta, with 21 Invest retaining a minority stake. Neither price nor stake sizes were disclosed by the parties.
Market context
Founded in 1999 and based in Pojana Maggiore, Vicenza, Energreen employs almost 200 people and sells mainly in the US, France, Spain and Germany. Ambienta estimates the global vegetation-control machinery market at about €4bn.
