Why Akamai Technologies, Inc. is buying LayerX

Akamai said LayerX would extend its protection into the browser, where most enterprise work now happens and where staff use generative AI applications, SaaS AI tools and AI agents. Unlike proprietary enterprise browsers, LayerX works with the popular browsers organisations already run.

Deal terms and financing

The roughly $205m covers all outstanding LayerX equity after expected purchase-price adjustments.

Regulatory approvals and timing

Akamai expected the deal to close in the third quarter of 2026; it announced completion on 2 July.

Market context

The acquisition extends Akamai's Zero Trust portfolio, which includes segmentation, Zero Trust Network Access and DNS security, as vendors race to offer controls over corporate AI use.
