Unilever agreed on 9 April to acquire Grüns, a fast-growing US greens supplement company, in a deal Axios reported at about $1.2bn; the company did not disclose terms.
Why Unilever PLC is buying Grüns
Unilever said the purchase continues its shift towards premium, high-growth categories, with a stronger focus on beauty and wellbeing and the US market. Wellbeing chief executive Jostein Solheim said Grüns combines efficacy with products people enjoy and consistently use, giving Unilever an opportunity to scale the brand.
Deal terms and financing
Terms were not disclosed at signing. Unilever's half-year report shows it acquired 80% of Grüns on 1 June 2026 for consideration of €767m, with provisional net assets of about €490m, and recognised a liability for buying out the remaining shareholders in future. NutraIngredients noted Grüns had been valued at $500m in 2025.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The deal was expected to close later in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, and completed on 1 June 2026. Founder Chad Janis stays as chief executive and Grüns trades under its own name within Unilever's Wellbeing business.
Market context
Grüns was founded in 2023 and has added children's, cognitive, immune and energy products since 2024. Unilever's wellbeing business also includes Liquid I.V., Olly, SmartyPants and Nutrafol.
