SLB has agreed to acquire S&P Global Energy's geoscience and petroleum engineering software portfolio, a suite of subsurface and engineering tools widely used by US onshore operators; terms were not disclosed.
Why SLB is buying S&P Global Energy geoscience and petroleum engineering software portfolio
SLB said the acquisition complements its digital portfolio by adding tools for day-to-day technical workflows alongside its advanced modelling and simulation software, and that it would progressively integrate the products with its AI-enabled platforms while preserving existing customer workflows. Chief executive Olivier Le Peuch said unconventional markets demand speed, scale and efficiency.
Deal terms and financing
Financial terms were not disclosed. The portfolio includes Kingdom Software, Petra, Harmony Enterprise, Analytics Explorer, SubPUMP, PowerTools, FieldDIRECT, Piper, WellTest and The Element Platform with associated services. The companies also agreed to collaborate on AI models combining SLB's digital platforms with S&P Global's upstream data.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second half of 2026 or early 2027. S&P Global reported the business as held for sale at 30 June 2026.
Market context
The software suite is used mainly by onshore operators in high-activity shale basins, where rapid drilling cycles drive demand for data-intensive workflows, according to World Oil.
