The family that owns Thimm Group, a corrugated packaging and display maker based in Northeim, Germany, agreed on 12 May to sell the company to Spain's Saica Group.
Why Saica Group is buying Thimm Group
Thimm's chairman Mathias Schliep said only a few large players would gain share in a highly competitive market and that selling to the largest family-owned company in the European industry would secure Thimm's future. Saica said Thimm brings regional capabilities in markets where it had not operated before.
“Thimm brings strong regional capabilities and a customer-driven approach in markets where Saica has not previously operated.”
Deal terms and financing
The parties agreed to keep the price confidential. The Thimm family will fully exit, and Saica intends to keep Thimm operating within its existing structures.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The European Commission approved the deal on 24 July 2026, after which the companies completed the transaction.
Market context
Saica, founded in 1943, had revenue of about €3.96bn in 2025 and more than 12,000 employees. The two groups have worked together in a sales alliance since the late 1990s and run a joint venture in Poland.
