KKR agreed on 4 February to acquire Arctos Partners, an investment firm that provides growth capital and liquidity to professional sports franchises and private fund sponsors, for $1.4bn in initial consideration plus up to $550m of performance-linked equity.
Why KKR & Co. Inc. is buying Arctos Partners
KKR's co-chief executives Joe Bae and Scott Nuttall said the firms shared cultural alignment and entrepreneurial roots and that Arctos would strengthen KKR's sourcing and origination. Arctos becomes the base of KKR Solutions, which KKR plans to build into a scaled multi-asset secondaries business.
Deal terms and financing
The initial consideration comprises $300m of cash and $1.1bn of KKR equity, including $900m paid to existing Arctos shareholders and $200m to be allocated by 2028, with vesting through 2030 and 2033 respectively. A further $550m of equity can be earned against KKR share-price and business targets through 2031, according to KKR's filing.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Closing required regulatory and specified sports league approvals. KKR said on 5 May 2026 that it had closed the acquisition, with completion on 4 May according to its quarterly filing.
Market context
Arctos, founded in 2019 by Ian Charles and Doc O'Connor, is described by KKR as a premier institutional investor in professional sports franchise stakes. Its acquisition is part of a wave of deals in which large alternative managers buy specialist firms to add secondaries and wealth-channel products.
