Deutsche Telekom agreed on 17 August to buy Polish fibre network operator Fiberhost and broadband and TV provider INEA from Macquarie Asset Management at an enterprise valuation of about €1bn.
Why Deutsche Telekom AG is buying Fiberhost and INEA
Deutsche Telekom said the deal is a new step in T-Mobile Polska's transformation from a mobile-only operator into a fully convergent telecoms provider. T-Mobile Polska chief executive Andreas Maierhofer said owning a fibre-to-the-home network would let it further develop its convergent products.
“This is an important milestone in T-Mobile Polska's continuous growth story.”
Deal terms and financing
Deutsche Telekom will acquire 100% of both companies from Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5 and minority shareholders. INEA brings more than 300,000 customers and Fiberhost a fibre network passing more than 1.4 million homes. Fiberhost will continue to provide transparent, non-discriminatory access to other internet service providers.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Closing is conditional on customary Polish competition approvals.
Market context
Macquarie said it had backed both companies for eight years and that Poland had been an important market for it for more than 20 years.
