Danone agreed on 23 March to acquire Huel, the British maker of nutritionally complete meals in powder and ready-to-drink formats, for an undisclosed sum reported at about €1bn.
Why Danone SA is buying Huel Ltd
Danone said the deal strengthens its functional nutrition business and gives it a position in complete nutrition, in line with its Renew Danone strategy. It plans to combine Huel's brand and digital capabilities with its own scale, nutrition expertise and international footprint.
“Today we are happy to officially welcome Huel to the Danone family.”
Deal terms and financing
Danone did not disclose financial terms. NutraIngredients reported the deal at €1bn. Huel generated £214m of revenue in 2024 and had previously raised money from investors including Idris Elba, Jonathan Ross, Grace Beverley and Steven Bartlett.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The UK Competition and Markets Authority cleared the acquisition after a phase 1 review in August, according to The Grocer. Danone announced completion on 4 September 2026.
Market context
Huel was founded in 2015 in Buckinghamshire by Julian Hearn and James Collier and is led by chief executive James McMaster, who stays in post. It opened a factory in Milton Keynes in 2024.
