Boston Scientific agreed on 12 January to acquire Valencia Technologies, a privately held company whose eCoin system treats urge urinary incontinence, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed.
Why Boston Scientific Corporation is buying Valencia Technologies Corporation
Boston Scientific said the purchase would take it into implantable tibial nerve stimulation, which it described as a high-growth adjacency for its urology business that complements its existing pelvic health products. eCoin, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2022, is placed under the skin near the ankle and automatically stimulates the tibial nerve; in its pivotal trial 68% of patients saw at least a 50% reduction in urge incontinence episodes.
Deal terms and financing
No price was disclosed. Boston Scientific said the deal would be immaterial to 2026 adjusted earnings per share and more dilutive on a GAAP basis because of acquisition-related charges and amortisation.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The company expected the deal to close in the first half of 2026. MedTech Dive reported on 6 April 2026 that Boston Scientific had announced the closing the previous week.
Market context
The deal follows Boston Scientific's 2024 acquisition of Axonics, a sacral neuromodulation business. eCoin competes with Medtronic's Altaviva tibial stimulator and Bluewind's Revi. Boston Scientific cites nearly 30 million US adults aged 40 and over with bothersome overactive bladder symptoms.
