Axight agreed on 17 April to acquire a significant minority stake in La Trobe Financial, the Australian private credit and real estate lending manager, from Brookfield, which remains the majority shareholder.
Why Axight is buying La Trobe Financial (minority stake)
La Trobe chief executive Chris Andrews called the transaction a strong endorsement of the firm's position, and Brookfield said the decision to bring in a minority partner reflected the strength and maturity of the business.
Deal terms and financing
The stake size and price were not disclosed. Alternative Credit Investor reported that the transaction values La Trobe at about US$2.1bn and that Axight is buying through a managed vehicle.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Closing was expected in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval; no completion announcement was found in the sources reviewed by October 2026.
Market context
Brookfield's private equity arm acquired La Trobe in May 2022. Its assets under management have since risen from about US$9.9bn to US$16.3bn, according to Alternative Credit Investor, and La Trobe puts its AUM at more than A$23bn.
