Allianz Global Investors said on 5 August that it had agreed to acquire UOB Asset Management, the fund arm of Singapore's United Overseas Bank, for S$555m (EUR 376m).
Why Allianz Global Investors is buying UOB Asset Management
AllianzGI said the deal gives it immediate distribution platforms and local expertise in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, strengthens its operations in Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia, and adds South-East Asian equity and Sharia-compliant capabilities. A long-term distribution partnership gives it access to UOB's retail clients.
“UOBAM is one of South-East Asia's leading asset managers, with very well-regarded investment capabilities and a strong distribution network.”
Deal terms and financing
The price includes excess capital and the value of the distribution agreement. UOBAM managed about EUR 28bn at the end of 2025 across Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan and Vietnam, against AllianzGI's EUR 653bn.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Completion is expected in 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
Market context
AllianzGI has operated in Singapore since 1999 and said the deal would immediately double its assets under management there. UOB said the partnership sharpens its focus on wealth advisory and distribution.
