Accenture agreed on 3 March to acquire Ookla, the Seattle-based network intelligence company behind Speedtest and Downdetector, from Ziff Davis for $1.2bn in cash.
Why Accenture plc is buying Ookla (Ziff Davis Connectivity division)
Accenture said integrating Ookla's data products would help communications service providers, hyperscalers and enterprises optimise the Wi-Fi and 5G networks behind their operations, and argued that network data now has uses beyond telecoms, from fraud prevention in banking to traffic optimisation in retail. Chief executive Julie Sweet said organisations cannot optimise experience, revenue or security without measuring network performance.
Deal terms and financing
Ziff Davis is selling its whole Connectivity division, including Ookla, Speedtest, Ekahau, Downdetector and RootMetrics, for $1.2bn in cash, subject to closing adjustments and taxes on the proceeds. The securities purchase agreement was dated 2 March 2026. The division had 2025 revenue of $231m, and Ziff Davis said it would use the proceeds for general corporate purposes and capital allocation.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The sale required regulatory approvals and customary conditions. Ziff Davis reported in an SEC filing that it completed the sale to Accenture on 17 June 2026.
Market context
Founded in 2006, Ookla has about 430 staff in software engineering, radio frequency engineering and data science, and its platform draws on more than 250 million consumer-initiated speed tests a month. Ziff Davis, whose portfolio includes technology, shopping, gaming and health media brands, will report the division as discontinued operations.
